You need at least 1 inch of depth at the top of the window for an inside mount. These can top mount or side mount inside the window frame.
For an OUTSIDE the window frame mount we take no deductions- provide us with the exact size you want. Outside mounts are traditionally mounted above the window opening, and go slightly wider than the opening. Make sure to measure your height from above the window where you are going to be mounting it. These surface mount directly to the wall or trim for an outside mount.
